What to expect
HUFKAS have a rhythmic, dynamic acoustic style. From the densely populated, historical cities of France, the culturally rich lifestyle of Columbia, the charismatic, island attitudes of Vanuatu and the never say never, yet laidback approach of Australia, the 4 members of Hufkas have united musically and are captivating a rapidly expanding fan base.
Absorbing the best aspects of funk, rock, reggae, blues and roots, this new band Hufkas convince, attract and entertain a wide demographic audience, including everything from the young, naïve pop followers to the musically enriched, maturing leaders of the arts industry. Having been influenced by Australian rock, underground French Reggae, South American Salsa and free styling string bands found busking and jamming on the streets of Vanuatu, Hufkas has had their music likened to names such as The John Butler Trio, Ben Harper, The Dave Matthews Band and Jack Johnson.
Constantly pushing and testing their talents in rehearsal, in the studio and on stage, this international ensemble is intelligently and inventively incorporating modern freestyle lead and percussion into well thought out performances. While much of their music is written and set in structures, Rodrigues is able to step outside the conventional boundaries and take the lead guitar to a new level of innovation to provide a platform for Raul to explode on percussion. The backbone and heart beat of the rich rhythm is found in the dynamics of complementary styles brought forth by rhythmic guitarist and vocalist Paul and hammered home by the drummer, Joseph.
While the history of this band is relatively short, they’ve already managed to snatch prime time gigs, spark enthusiasm from the media and receive praise from well established musically orientated organisations, peers and other bands. Rapidly forging a unique sound, this band is focused on breaking barriers and proving that “impossible” is a perception for those who prefer not to try.
